Stainless Steel makes a Splash!
Swimming has long been the most popular indoor sport in the country – yet many pools, especially those built for diving aren’t being used to their full potential. The deep area of a pool isn’t suitable for non-swimmers, and separate shallow pools have limited use.
Now, however, a PPF floating floor can change all that.
Within a few minutes your pool can be switched from its use as a diving pool to a toddlers paddling area, simply by raising the floor from the bottom of the pool. In its fully raised position, the floor becomes a rigid cover, able to take keep fit classes – which offers greater flexibility and increased revenue.
You can’t move the concrete….but you can move the floor! (at 450mm per minute)
More Fun – and more Profit
The flexibility of usage offered by the PPF moveable floor is incredible. In fact, many of the floors installed in diving pools throughout the country are moved more than 20 times a day, increasing pool use by as much as 600%. Revenues are, therefore, affected positively
According to the Sports Council of England 75% of swimming pools users want access to more shallow water. The PPF floor allows you to offer your customer exactly what they want. From use as a dry exercise area, through keep fit innovations such as splash dancing/aquajogging (when a class begins exercise on the dry floor, and the floor gradually moves down, increasing resistance, finishing the class with water at shoulder level), to diving and sub aqua. The floor is perfect for Over 60’s sessions, offering easier access to the water than steps. Disabled customers can simply wheel in to the water – so no undignified winches or manhandling.
In its ‘rest position’, the floor floats on the surface of the water, with the benefits of greater heat retention, less evaporation and lower chemical and fuel costs. Within a few minutes the floor can be moved to the bottom of the pool, using just 2.2kW of electricity. The PPF floor can pay for itself within two years – and you’ll still have 38 years of your structural guarantee left.

Safety and durability
The PPF floating floor, with its non-corroding Stainless Steel structure and foam filled buoyancy panels, has been installed in 68 pools as of 01/01/2000 since the company was established in 1984.
Designed with safety in mind, the structure can be installed in any pool with a minimum of building work. The floor is supplied completely knocked down, and is carried through standard doors of the existing swimming pools. There is no need for crane hire or expensive and disruptive construction work.
There are no working parts under water and it is not possible for swimmers to get beneath the floor. The structure is so strong the floor can even be used as a lift. The complete system switches itself off 20 minutes, as a safety feature. Depth indicators and ‘no diving’ signs are installed, and they continue to work, with the power off, greatly extending the life of the electronics which in line with the IEE – IEC 16th Edition for Swimming Pools, no microprocessors are used. PPF undertake the long term maintenance of their floors, including annual inspections above and below the waterline – by their own Health and Safety Executive approved divers/engineers.
Submersible Booms
PPF also manufacture submersible booms. These have been installed to date in 15 pools and 13 pools with floor and boom combinations, they can divide a pool allowing, for example, diving/teaching to take place in section, whilst swimmers use the other. The boom can then be submerged, and the whole pool used by one group. Pools fitted with a boom in conjunction with a floating floor are able to offer an enormous range of uses.
Another First
PPF have designed and installed the first moveable floor in a hotel pool. The floor has a carrying capacity of 500 kilograms per square metre. Hotels expect to recoup the cost of the floor within 10 months.
Specification
Stainless Steel frames are manufactured in-house from non-corroding Marine Stainless. Welding procedures are carried out to the highest quality standards. The total height required for the floor and the space below is 350mm maximum.
PPF floors answer fully to HSE standards. Comparable systems may require additional work to achieve HSE standards, so can cost 30% more iin building costs.
Standard load bearing is 40kg/sq m, but this can be increased according to requirements. Each panel has integrated grilles, enabling the floor to move through the water like a giant sieve, at the speed of 450mm per minute.
PPF floors are supplied completely knocked down, with components being carried into the building through standard doors, so no need for major building works.
The floor is moved via two hydraulic rams which are driven by a 2.2kW motor, these are positioned away from the pool area.
PPF’s unique all round rubber side finish secures a safe closure with tiles and floor area, leaving no gaps.
The PPF Guarantee
The floor and all moving parts are guaranteed for 1 year. The surface and the structure are guaranteed for 5 years, to be increased to 10 years if serviced and maintained by PPF. No other make of moveable floor or submersible boom whatsoever, regardless of price, will be found in superior condition to the Prestige Pool Floor at the end of any given period of use.
