Chicken Fillet Trimming & Pocket Loading System

As part of a larger cone deboning line installation, 2 Sister Food Group required a system to transfer chicken fillets from the deboning line through manual trimming stations and into an automated grader operating at a precise product pitch.

The existing production layout presented several challenges. The deboning line was not directly aligned with the trimming area, and the product route needed to cross a main access point without obstructing movement through the production hall.

The system also needed to accommodate left- and right-handed operators, simplify manual loading and deliver individual fillets to the grader at the correct spacing.

The Wrightfield Solution

Working around the existing plant layout, Wrightfield designed a combination of conveyors that elevated product above the main access route before bringing it down to the upper tier of the trimming and loading system.

Each trimming station was fitted with a universal trimming board, while the centre conveyor and flighted pocket-loading conveyor were carefully positioned to allow operators to simply drag and drop each fillet into an individual pocket.

Crucially, the flight spacing was engineered to match the auto grader's requirements, ensuring consistent product presentation as each fillet passed over the weigh cell.

This resulted in a fully integrated trimming and loading system capable of handling 240 chicken fillets per minute with just two operators loading the pockets.

The finished installation maintained essential access through the production hall, simplified manual handling and provided the precise product spacing required for automated weighing and grading.

By considering 2 Sister Food Group's plant layout, operator interaction and downstream equipment together, Wrightfield delivered a practical, efficient solution tailored to the customer's production process.
